The role of Young Mabel Hubbard will be played by Bethany Reid of Marion Bridge and Sarah Walker of Sydney!
These two young singer-actors will steal your hearts in The Bells of Baddeck.
Bethany says: “I love a challenge, so when I was offered the role of young Mabel Bell, I seized the opportunity. I think playing someone who’s hearing impaired will help me be able to participate in a more diverse range of theatre. Although deaf, Mabel was not mute as she was privileged and could afford to hire tutors to help her to keep her speech. I respect that Mabel had ambition and drive to get where she wanted to be in life. I see her as a person of powerful nature I will keep that in mind as I prepare to bring her character to life.
I can only imagine the fear a young girl would experience when her world suddenly becomes silent. I am so excited to have the opportunity to re-enact the life of young Mabel Bell; to see her world through her eyes and to learn more about the challenges she faced and the obstacles she overcame. To step back in time and be immersed in the history of the Bell family. I love history and I’m sure it will be an amazing experience. I am fascinated with her and the Bell family’s life story.”
Sarah is thrilled to be portraying Young Mabel Bell. Sarah has performed at the Savoy Theatre as Susan Walker, Miracle on 34th St.; Flounder, The Little Mermaid; & Young Eponine, Les Misérables. Her spare time is spent singing and dancing. “I am honoured to be included in this production as I am immersed in the history of the exceptional Bell family.”
