Young Mabel grows up into a strong, beautiful, enterprising woman of the world… meet Nova Scotian soprano Allison Angelo! From Allison: “I am thrilled to be creating the role of Mabel Hubbard Bell in The Bells of Baddeck this summer.”
Allison grew up in Truro and attended Dalhousie University for her degree in Music and Theatre, and she is always eager to get back home. She has special memories of family reunions on Cape Breton Island where her maternal grandparents grew up, and she can’t believe she will be spending the whole summer in Baddeck! Just like Mabel, Allison is delighted to introduce her children to the unique beauty of Cape Breton; to hear the music, meet the people and take in “the spirit of the lake and the town and the ones who inherit these fields and streams and bountiful bowers”. She has appeared with the Toronto, Edmonton, Niagara, Winnipeg, Kingston, Victoria and Vancouver Symphonies, Symphony Nova Scotia, the Boston POPS, the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, the Elora Festival, Toronto’s Luminato Festival, the Banff Centre, the Scotia Festival of Music, Opéra de Montréal, Jeunesses Musicales du Canada and Toronto Operetta Threatre. A grant recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts, she has been heard on CBC Radio and Bravo! Canada and her first solo album, “Moon loves its light” will be released in May 2015.
Welcome to The Bells of Baddeck, Allison!
