MEET THE FASHIONABLE AND VIVACIOUS BELL DAUGHTERS in THE BELLS OF BADDECK!
Born in Sydney, Soprano STEPHANIE HIGGINS is honoured to première the role of ELSIE BELL GROSVENOR Having spent many of her childhood summers visiting Baddeck, it is a dream come true to bring music and drama to life in the heart of the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. Stephanie has created the role of Juliet in the world premiere of George Rideout’s The Ballad of Romeo and Juliet, and Puck, in A Beatle’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Most recently she worked with Toronto’s Against the Grain Theatre, and she performed the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni in Italy. In May she performs “Daughter of the Capulets” by Thomas Pasatieri while pursuing her DMA at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Professor Lorna MacDonald.
Soprano LARISSA KONIUK is a singer/actor whose artistic passion is the creation and collaboration of new opera works. She looks forward to embracing the vivacious daughter, MARIAN “DAISY” BELL FAIRCHILD, in The Bells of Baddeck this summer! Larissa is the founder and artistic director of the Bicycle Opera Project <www.bicycleopera.com>, producing and performing contemporary works across Ontario in 2013 and 2014, and in Nova Scotia in 2015. She was heard recently at TSO’s New Creations Festival, and she will perform at RCM’s 21C Music Festival and première Aaron Gervais’ Longuement me sui tenus with Soundstreams. “Bicycle Opera is all about emerging talent and social relevance harnessed to a 400-year-old art form.” So who better to collaborate on the very socially relevant Bell family?
